Materials
DESSERTO®
Desserto® cactus leather, developed by the Mexican company Adriano Di Marti, is a biomaterial of very high quality, made from Nopal cacti (also called prickly pear).
Fully integrated into the local flora, this cactus is grown according to organic farming methods and without resorting to irrigation. Nopal is also an exceptional CO2 trap, which allows Adriano di Marti's crops to have a clearly positive carbon footprint.
To manufacture Desserto® cactus leather consumes 9 times less energy and emits nearly 20 times less greenhouse gases than that of animal leather.
The visual appearance and touch of Desserto® is simply astounding. Tests carried out by a French independent laboratory, the CTC (“Centre Technique du Cuir”), have also shown that this cactus leather is equivalent to calf leather in terms of strength and longevity.
ULTRASUEDE®, ECONYL® & ORGANIC COTTON
Ultrasuede® is manufactured by the Japanese company Toray and incorporates nearly 30% of components from the recovery of sugar cane waste.
Econyl® is a 100% recycled and recyclable nylon fibre, made from plastic waste (bottles, fishing nets, etc) by the Italian company Aquafil.
The fabrics used to make other linings are made of GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton, a label that guarantees the organic origin of the textile but also ecologically and socially responsible production.
FOREBIO®
Forebio® reinforcements are supplied by the French company Keck Chimie, present in the shoe and leather goods industry for more than a century.
These reinforcements, certified GRS (Global Recycled Standard), innovatively combine recycled textile fibres and latex from responsible sources. These products are also 100% recyclable.
Their excellent extendability and remarkable resistance make it a material of first choice for the creation of bags and small leather goods.
SERAFIL® RECYCLED
Amman Group's Serafil® is a reference for high-end leather goods, offering remarkable strength for durable seams.
The “Recycled” version of Serafil®, made from recycled PET bottles and CERTIFIED GRS (Global Recycled Standard), now combines sustainable quality and responsibility.
OFFICINA BIGIOTTERIA ITALIANA
The Italian company Officina Bigiotteria Italiana (OBI) offers expertise, quality and proximity.
OBI develops and produces in Italy, using 100% renewable energies. The company is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and especially to ISO 14001 standards on environmental impact management.
To ensure that its jewellery pieces meet the highest social and environmental standards, OBI exclusively uses gold certified by the RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council).
RIRI SA
The Swiss Riri Group is a leader in the manufacture of metal accessories and the preferred choice of many luxury Houses.
Since 2021, Riri has made recycled polyester a standard for its range of zippers.
The use of GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified recycled polyester, from post-consumer (80%) and pre-consumer (20%) materials, will lead to a 32% reduction in CO2 emissions related to the acquisition of polyester within the group.
Care Instructions
The Desserto® cactus leather with which Maison Maes bags and small leather goods are made is a material of plant origin that must be taken care of to preserve its beauty for a long time.
- If necessary, clean the cactus leather with a soft cloth moistened with clear water.
- Pad your product with tissue paper to preserve its shape and store it in its protective pouch. Do not enclose it in a plastic bag.
- Avoid contact with greasy substances (cosmetics, sunscreens, etc), perfumes or any liquid product. In case of contact with any of these products, dab with a soft, clear cloth to absorb it. In case of contact with a strongly coloured liquid, blot as quickly as possible.
- Avoid prolonged exposure of your product to heat and any source of intense light.
- Prevent any contact between your product and an abrasive surface. It could permanently damage the cactus leather.
